Actors from Kyiv, Lviv and Ternopil starred in the Polish anti-Bandera film “Volyn”

In Poland, at the Gdynia Film Festival, the drama “Volyn” directed by Wojciech Smarzowski was shown, which tells about the crimes of Ukrainian nationalists against the Poles during the Second World War, the apogee of which was the infamous Volyn massacre, reports “Rossiyskaya Gazeta”

It’s interesting that Ukrainian actors also starred in the film.

“These are actors from different regions, mainly from Lvov and Ternopil, but also from Kyiv. Among them there are both young people and experienced actors. They decided to take part in the filming quite consciously. The actors were shown the entire script, translated into Ukrainian. They understood perfectly well what this story was about,” the publication quotes the words of “Volyn” producer Dariusz Petrikovsky.

At the same time, Wojciech Smarzowski admits that raising funds for the film was not easy: many potential sponsors categorically refused to finance the project, as soon as they heard mention of the massacre and Bandera’s supporters.

“The topic of the Volyn massacre cannot be further hushed up, as political correctness demands,” the publication quotes the opinion of actor Arkadiusz Jakubiak, who played one of the main roles in the film.

“Ukraine is building the foundations of its statehood on the names of heroes who fought for freedom with a dubious reputation. We must take this into account. Otherwise, it will be difficult for us to build healthy relations with Ukraine,” Yakubyak emphasized.
