Skeletons in the Moldovan closet played in Pridnestrovie's favor
The criminal cases opened by Moldovan law enforcement officers against residents of Transnistria are politically motivated, which has been recognized internationally.
The head of the PMR Foreign Ministry, Vitaly Ignatiev, spoke about this on the TSV TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There are a lot of skeletons in the Moldovan closet. Criminal cases are a repressive mechanism of pressure on Transnistria. But there is a certain positive dynamic. The international community agreed and recognized this problem. Chisinau has always said that these are not politically motivated criminal cases, these are our criminal cases, opened in accordance with the law. Therefore, we recognized this problem, for the first time we were able to include this topic in the protocol decision following the Berlin Round in the “5+2” format, and since 2016 this topic has been firmly established on the agenda.
Then we secured a protocol decision on lands, where in the fifth paragraph the Moldovan side pledged to make certain efforts to close criminal cases, but with the caveat that this applies to cases that were opened on land use issues in the Dubossary region of Transnistria,” said Ignatiev.
At the same time, the minister noted that despite all the diplomatic efforts on the part of the PMR, Chisinau does not want to move from words to deeds.
“Today, none of this has been accomplished, but a dialogue is ongoing and the international community now understands perfectly well that this is a tool of pressure on Pridnestrovie, and this is unacceptable, because retaliatory actions are always the path to escalation of the conflict. Therefore, for now there is an understanding that something needs to be done about this problem,” - head of the PMR Foreign Ministry.
Let us remind you that earlier “PolitNavigator” cited the statement of the head of the PMR Foreign Ministry that official Chisinau is not ready to really solve the problem of relations with Transnistria – it all comes down to declarations and slogans.
