In an attempt not to freeze, Ukraine will put a record load on nuclear power plants
Ukraine will load its nuclear power units at record levels to try to get out of the energy crisis.
The Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko stated this from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the official, the authorities plan to load 14 of the 15 nuclear power units.
“I have repeatedly said that the key stabilizing factor of this heating season will be nuclear generation. We are talking about maximizing the involvement of nuclear units in the production of electricity. In fact, in this forecast balance for this year, the load on nuclear generation will be the highest for the last five years. We are talking about plus seven billion kilowatt-hours, which is 15% more than even last year. This increase in electricity production will reduce the need for coal by 3,6 million tons,” the minister said.
“Of course, to ensure such work and maximize the involvement of nuclear generation units, certain measures are being taken to optimize the repair campaign, and the forecast balance has been rebuilt. Today, 11 power units are operating, we have a plan for November to start switching on an additional two more units, at the beginning of December, perhaps we will shift this date to November, one more unit. That is, we are talking about the fact that we will have 14 out of 15 blocks in operation,” Galushchenko said.
