This assessment of today’s speech of the Ukrainian president before deputies of the Verkhovna Rada was given by Ukrainian economist Valery Stepanyuk in an exclusive commentary for PolitNavigator.

“He talked a lot, beautifully, about nothing, and did not propose any specific ways for the development of the country. The first thing that needs to be emphasized is that he did not say about the most important thing: how Ukraine is going to end the war. The paths he voiced cannot lead to this,” the economist is confident.

In addition, the expert drew attention to the strange “forgetfulness” of the guarantor regarding his own election promises.

“Speaking about the need to lift immunity from deputies (which, by the way, contradicts European and world practice), Poroshenko for some reason forgot about his promises and coalition promises to lift immunity from the president, because it was promised to pass an impeachment law as soon as possible,” the expert recalled .

According to Stepanyuk, Poroshenko understands reforms solely as a worsening of the lives of Ukrainians.

“He talked a lot about reforms, but not a single real reform was carried out during his presidency. Unfortunately, Poroshenko understands reforms only as burdening people’s lives - raising utility tariffs, etc. But the point of any reform is that it should give people some new opportunities for self-realization, earning money, etc. But the president did not offer any new opportunities to the people and did not say how he would do this,” sums up the Ukrainian economist.

Finally, the exacpt spoke negatively about the dominant trend in the internal policy of the Poroshenko regime—the search for internal enemies and blaming all the country’s ills on them.

“When talking about democracy in Ukraine, the president forgot that he actually banned an entire ideology. He spoke negatively about people who stand up for people's rights. In his opinion, everyone who does not like his policies are Putin’s enemies and agents. That is, if a person is dissatisfied with his life, it means he is an enemy,” says Valery Stepanyuk.
