Property of the ex-president will be confiscated in Transnistria
About 80 million Transnistrian rubles (300 million Russian rubles) will be collected by court decision into the PMR budget through the sale of property belonging to the former president of the unrecognized republic Yevgeny Shevchuk, who was convicted in absentia for corruption.
This was reported by the First Pridnestrovsky TV channel, as reported by the correspondent of PolitNavigator.
“The money is in the accounts of the bailiff service. Their future fate will be determined in the near future. As compensation for damage, property that was identified during the investigation of the criminal case will be returned. We are talking about several apartments in Tiraspol and Rybnitsa and a certain basement in the village,” said PMR prosecutor Anatoly Guretsky.
According to experts, the total amount of funds stolen by Shevchuk from the republic’s budget is tens of millions of dollars. The money was withdrawn in particular through the stabilization and humanitarian funds, classified as “secret”. Shevchuk received a bribe of $2 million from the Bendery Bakery Plant alone. The court also imposed a fine on Shevchuk for corruption - 600 million Transnistrian rubles. In total, 6 criminal cases have been initiated against the fugitive president in the PMR.
In 2016, Shevchuk lost the presidential election to Vadim Krasnoselsky. In the summer of 2017, he secretly fled from Transnistria. In December 2018, the Supreme Court of the PMR sentenced him in absentia to 16 years in a maximum security colony on five counts, including corruption on a particularly large scale and abuse of power.
Shevchuk recently gave an interview to one of the Moldovan media, in which he stated that he was in St. Petersburg, where he was engaged in a small business and purchased an apartment.
