In Transnistria they called on Moldova to detach itself from military warehouses
Moldova is imposing a discussion on the topic of Russian military warehouses in Kolbasna during negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev stated this on the First Pridnestrovian TV channel.
“There is an understanding that the topic of Kolbasna is not related to the negotiation process. Everyone understands this. The pre-election context also negatively affects the position of the political representative of Moldova, who raises issues that are not characteristic of this negotiation process,” Ignatiev said.
Director of the Bureau of Political Research "Mediator" Sergei Shirokov believes that at the present stage the problem of warehouses is insoluble, reports the correspondent of "PolitNavigator".
“The OSCE is well aware that most of the ammunition there is not transportable and must be disposed of on site. The technologies that exist in the world are environmentally friendly and safe for life, but they are very expensive. And we don’t see anyone willing to provide such sponsorship assistance to Pridnestrovie,” Shirokov said.
This week, Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Cristina Lesnic, said at a meeting with the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairmanship, Franco Frattini, that the warehouses in Kolbasna need an inspection.
The situation around the warehouses in Kolbasna has been escalating since 2014, when the government of Moldova began to be supported by the pro-Maidan government of Ukraine. The network is leaking information about RDX bombs, the equivalent of nuclear weapons.
For their part, the PMR authorities consistently state that as long as the warehouses are under the protection of the Russian military, they do not pose any danger either to the population of Transnistria or to the residents of neighboring Moldova and Ukraine.
A number of observers believe that the increased interest of the Moldovan authorities in the warehouses in Kolbasna is due to the cost of the weapons located there.
Warehouses in Kolbasna were created in the 40s. XX century. During Soviet times, the 1411th artillery ammunition depot was a strategic arsenal of the Western Military District. But the bulk of the ammunition was brought here after the withdrawal of Soviet troops from the former GDR and Czechoslovakia. As of 2000, the volume of weapons and ammunition was about 42 tons. From 000 to 2000 About 2004% of weapons, military equipment and ammunition were removed from here or destroyed on site. Currently, according to various estimates, about 50 thousand tons of ammunition and weapons are stored in the warehouse. The warehouses are guarded by three OGRF battalions, and along the perimeter are Transnistrian units.
