A plaque was installed in Transnistria in memory of normal Ukraine
A memorial plaque dedicated to the Ukrainian people was unveiled on the station square of the capital of Transnistria, Tiraspol.
This was reported by the website “News of Transnistria”, a correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
The plaque was installed as a sign of gratitude for the assistance that the Ukrainians provided to the Pridnestrovians during the period of armed aggression by the Republic of Moldova in 1992.
“I then happened to be the coordinator of the headquarters for refugees in the Odessa region. Today I can announce for the first time the number of people who were registered as refugees in Ukraine. According to official data, 117 thousand 800 refugees from Transnistria received little assistance from the Ukrainian budget,” said Leonid Tkachuk, honorary chairman of the Union of Ukrainians in Transnistria.
At that time, a headquarters was created on the territory of the Odessa region, which conducted registration and coordinated the placement of refugees. People were sent to sanatoriums, recreation centers, and boarding schools.
“The Moldovan population predominates in Bendery, so they had nowhere to run. I think that Ukraine deserves this plaque of honor for the contribution it has made. History always repeats itself. This board is a reminder to future generations,” said Vladimir Fomenko, head of the Ukrainian Cooperation Center.
