This assessment of the situation in the electricity market was given by the Pridnestrovian TV channel TSV with reference to officials of the PMR government.
Traditionally, electricity was supplied to Moldova by the Moldavian State District Power Plant, located on the territory of Transnistria and part of the Inter RAO UES group. However, this year Moldavelektrika unexpectedly entered into an agreement with an intermediary for the supply of Ukrainian electricity.
The Moldovan side explained this by the cheapness of surplus electricity from Ukrainian nuclear power plants, but the Minister of Economic Development of the PMR, Sergei Obolonik, is confident that the contract was politically motivated and directed against Pridnestrovie and Russia. However, the deal, according to him, failed because the price of electricity did not include the price of transit through the territory of the PMR. The authorities of the republic estimated the transit at 20 million Transnistrian rubles, which made the contract with Ukraine unprofitable.
“The contract that was concluded between Moldelectrica and the Moldovan intermediary for the transportation of Ukrainian electricity, if there is an additional cost in it in connection with transportation through the territory of the PMR, ceases to comply with the conditions that were put forward at the tender,” the minister said industry of the PMR Nikolay Gliga.
The Moldavian State District Power Plant has already stopped generating electricity for export to Moldova, however, on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border, energy workers will record a negative flow balance. This means that a generation deficit has been created in the Moldovan-Transnistrian energy system. Rolling blackouts in villages and urban areas have already begun in Moldova.
Nikolai Gliga referred to personal conversations with Ukrainian energy workers who are surprised by the decision to supply electricity to Moldova, while thermal power plants in Ukraine itself are shutting down due to a shortage of coal.
