“As the current head of state, I just called Vladimir Zelensky and congratulated him on the official election results, which were announced today by the Central Election Commission. All international observers recognized them as honest, transparent and democratic. They were fully consistent with Ukraine’s strategy for membership in the European Union and NATO, which I consistently implemented during the five years of my presidency. I hope that the new president will continue this course, which fully meets the national interests of Ukraine,” the address says.

Poroshenko called “to immediately demonstrate to all our partners a united Ukrainian position at a time when, by distributing Russian passports in the occupied territories, the Kremlin is carrying out the next stage of the hybrid war against Ukraine.”

“In this way, [RF President Vladimir] Putin is preparing a justification for a new round of military aggression under the pretext of allegedly protecting the rights of citizens of the Russian Federation. Russia deserves a significant tightening of sanctions against it. This issue will be the main thing to which I will devote the last weeks of my presidential powers. But to continue and complete the solution to this problem is the responsibility of the new president. Therefore, I think that we should coordinate our efforts,” said the current head of state.

He stressed that “election rivalry is a thing of the past” and thanked the citizens who voted for him.

“Now we, all Ukrainians, together with our common efforts must not give Putin a single chance to take advantage of the transition period in Ukraine, our democratic process of transfer of power. I hope that this position will also find support from the elected president,” Poroshenko said.

Previously PolitNavigator сообщил about the agreement between Poroshenko and Zelensky about the meeting. The outgoing president will hand over matters to his successor.
