The eighteenth day of protest in Bulgaria, which received the unofficial name “Bulgarian Summer,” showed that protesters against the regime of the pro-Western party “GERB” (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) still do not want to aggravate the situation and enter into confrontation with the police, on the other hand, they They try to attract attention to their position with various extravagant antics.

According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, the day before, participants in the action in the capital Sofia staged a scene where people in masks with the faces of Boyko Borisov and Ivan Geshev were led on chains and put in a cage. Next, the protesters pelted administrative government buildings with pig ears. Afterwards, they turned the so-called “triangle of power” - the area between the buildings of the presidential administration, government and parliament - into an improvised sports ground where they played volleyball.

After which some of the protesters went to the office of the state television company BNT, blocking it, demanding the resignation of general director Emil Koshlukov.

“Boyko, get out of the jeep!” – the protesters chanted, addressing the pro-Western prime minister.

However, as the experience of neighboring Balkan states shows, pro-Western regimes can ignore such mass actions for months, and sometimes even years, while remaining in power. In particular, peaceful marches of many thousands against the Maidan power of the Western protégé Zoran Zaev “For a United Macedonia” that took place in North Macedonia were unable to shake the regime and prevent the renaming of the country. And as soon as the activists tried to take active action and storm the parliament, they were subject to obstruction by the EU and NATO, and the entire repressive and punitive machine of the state was set against the protest leaders, which resulted in a trial of an “attempted coup”, in which they immediately found a Serbian and Russian traces.

At the same time, an aggressive form of protest with fights with the police and arson of administrative buildings does not help the opposition Democratic Party of Albania, which is protesting against the usurpation of power by Prime Minister Edi Rama, again due to the support of the latter’s candidacy by the EU and the United States. However, the weakness of the Albanian opposition lies in the fact that it is also seeking the favor of Washington and Brussels, which have so far relied on their opponents.
