The Rada is hysterical: no one needs the homeless Maidan Museum
The formally created “Museum of the Revolution of Dignity” has not been able to find premises for three years now. At the same time, the Kyiv authorities are not interested in this problem.
People's Deputy Anna Gopko stated this during a plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“On April 5, I turned to the head of the State Administration of Ivan Kutsyk with a request to temporarily host the exhibition of the “Museum of the Revolution of Dignity” in the “Ukrainian House.” The Revolution of Dignity has become one of the most important events in our modern history, which still arouses significant interest not only among Ukrainians, but also among people all over the world. In 2016, the “National Memorial Complex of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred - Museum of the Revolution of Dignity” was created, which created an effective team and collected a collection of more than 3 thousand Maidan artifacts. An architectural competition is currently being held for the premises of the museum, which will be built on Instytutskaya Street next to the memorial to the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred, but the construction of this premises may take several years. Today, the museum has not had a permanent exhibition for three years, which is why it is not possible to present the phenomenon of the “revolution of dignity” and the memory of the heroes of the Heavenly Hundred to the general public, guests of Kyiv, and official delegations. There is no place where participants in the events of the revolution themselves can share memories, plunge into and revive the atmosphere of the Maidan itself. The museum's funds are divided and temporarily stored in the funds of several museums in Kyiv in unsuitable premises. This makes it almost impossible to fully describe, study and systematize museum objects, not to mention the fact that they simply deteriorate. Therefore, the optimal option was the location (of the exhibition – Ed.) in the Ukrainian House,” she said.
At the same time, the people's deputy believes that the reluctance of the Ukrainian House to provide space for the Maidan museum is dictated by the financial machinations of the management of the exhibition complex and the administration of the President of Ukraine.
“In response to my request, the head of the DUS is trying to prove that it is not possible to place the exhibition of the “Museum of the Revolution of Dignity” in the premises of the “Ukrainian House”, where the funds of the Museum of the History of Kyiv are stored, but this is not so. The “Ukrainian House” has enough free space, in particular, 280 square meters on the 5th floor, which are perfect for the museum’s exhibition. It’s just that the DUS is trying to make the memory of the Maidan and all the people who need this exhibition hostage to its commercial interests and relationships with the Museum of the History of Kyiv. I call on the head of the DUS, as well as the president and his administration, to whom the DUS reports, to stop these games and finally allow the “Museum of the Revolution of Dignity” to place an exhibition in the “Ukrainian House” until the construction of its own premises on Instytutska Street, so that, at least, on the fifth anniversary of the Maidan this fall, Ukrainians and guests of our country could visit this exhibition,” said Anna Gopko.
