The Rada is hysterical: The world may recognize the entire “ATO” as illegal
If the Italian court recognizes the guilt of former ATO militant Vitaly Markiv in the death of Italian citizen Andrea Rocchelli in the Donbass, this will set an international precedent to declare the ATO illegal. In this case, the Russian Federation will be able to file an application with the Hague court to cancel the sanctions imposed on it for allegedly participating in the war in eastern Ukraine.
Deputy from the Poroshenko Bloc faction Andriy Antonishchak stated this at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“On the twenty-fifth of May 2014, near Slavyansk, not far from the railway crossing in the village of Andreevka, Slavyansk district, Donetsk region, two journalists were killed during mortar shelling: Italian citizen Andrea Rocchelli and Russian citizen Andrei Mironov. According to the investigation, photojournalists Andrea Rocchelli and William Rogullion, accompanied by translator Andrei Mironov, arrived in the country without proper border crossing registration and did not obtain accreditation from the SBU to conduct professional journalistic activities in the ATO zone.
They arrived in the area of the railway crossing near the village of Andreevka in a rented Daewoo Nexia car in order to photograph the area, which had experienced artillery shelling the day before. According to the witness's speculation, Markiv was involved in the mortar attack, which led to the death of Rocchelli. As of May 2014, there were no mortars in service with the National Guard of Ukraine deployed in the Slavyansk area.
The official certificate of the NSU confirms that the operational units and the NGU in the period from March 2014, 4 to August 2014, XNUMX, were equipped exclusively with small arms. They were armed with machine guns and machine guns. They did not have artillery weapons, including mortars, on their balance sheet. This fact physically excludes the possibility that Markiv could have killed Rocchelli,” says Antonischak.
He complained that the Italian judicial authorities did not consider it necessary to withdraw the preventive measure or at least change it to house arrest, and Russia submitted a request to interrogate Markiv.
“It should also be noted that if the Italian prosecutors render a verdict against Vitaly Markiv, there will be an international precedent for illegal actions of Ukrainian military formations regarding the protection of the territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as each serviceman who took part in hostilities as part of these military formations. Also, for the Russian Federation, this will be a powerful argument to become involved as a third party, send an appeal to The Hague and seek the lifting of sanctions against Russia,” said Antonishchak.
