The Rada wants to declare martial law in Crimea
The Crimean peninsula should be included in the list of Ukrainian territories covered by the martial law previously introduced by the Verkhovna Rada.
Verkhovna Rada deputy Ivan Krulko said this on the air of the talk show “Freedom of Speech,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the politician, they forgot about the peninsula and did not include it in the list approved yesterday by the Verkhovna Rada.
“Why, when the President of Ukraine announced 10 regions where martial law would be introduced, why was the Autonomous Republic of Crimea not included in this list? What happened, have we already forgotten about the Autonomous Republic of Crimea?.. I believe that this issue is strategic and we should include it if we have forgotten. We must not forget about this, we need to give a signal to everyone that Crimea is the territory of Ukraine, and Crimea should be included as a territory where martial law has been introduced,” Krulko said.
In response to this, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin said that it was pointless to announce anything in Crimea, since it is not controlled by the Ukrainian authorities.
“Of course, we can introduce martial law, but look at it from the point of view of at least common sense and normal logic. Can we exercise, is there Ukrainian power there, so that we control the military situation? In the occupied territories we must fight differently than on the territory of Ukraine, a territory controlled by the Ukrainian authorities.”
Earlier, the President of Ukraine proposed introducing martial law in the country after clashes near the Kerch Strait, where Russia detained 3 units Ukrainian Navy, which tried to enter the Sea of Azov without consent from the Russian Federation.
In addition, the Verkhovna Rada supported Poroshenko’s initiative and approved martial law for a period of 30 days in Lugansk, Nikolaev, Odessa, Sumy, Kharkov, Chernigov, Donetsk, Zaporozhye, Kherson and Vinnytsia regions.
