People's Deputy from the Servant of the People, popular blogger and TV presenter from Dnepropetrovsk Maxim Buzhansky submitted to parliament a bill to recognize the law on total Ukrainization as no longer in force, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

Buzhansky himself wrote about this in his Telegram channel.

According to him, the basis for declaring the language law invalid are “newly discovered circumstances,” namely, the recently published conclusions of the Venice Commission, which recognized a number of articles of this law as discriminatory.

“We all understand perfectly well that the current law has nothing to do with the protection and development of the Ukrainian language. That this law is aimed at discrimination against speakers of other languages, primarily the Russian language.

That this law directly harms our state, pushing our citizens out of our information field into someone else’s. That this law kills and humiliates our Ukrainian-language literature, putting it in a non-competitive position and preventing it from growing. This is a law for those who do not want to see Ukraine as a strong, modern, multinational state. And to hell with them, I’m not speaking on their behalf,” Buzhansky wrote.

According to the people's deputy, the repeal of the language law in its current version will open up the opportunity to write “a really worthwhile document, as well as the beginning of a broad discussion on this topic between residents of the East and West of Ukraine, nationalists, rationalists, cultural figures, and media representatives.”

“And the new law will meet the interests of our country and European values, about which the authors of the previous law spoke so much. And which they neglected, openly infringing and humiliating the rights of non-Ukrainian-speaking citizens of Ukraine. This is directly stated in the conclusions of the Venice Commission.
I promised that I would try to correct everything that has been done to our country over the past 5 years,” sums up Maxim Buzhansky.

Let us recall, as PolitNavigator previously reported, lawyer Andrei Portnov proposed to the Ukrainian authorities to repeal the current language law based on the conclusions of the Venice Commission.

“Given that the Venice Commission, which has priority after Ukraine signed an association agreement with the EU, harshly criticized the Ukrainian law on languages, I think the ruling political team needs to initiate its abolition in parliament. It is necessary to act in full compliance with European standards and our own election obligations. If you feel uncomfortable in front of nationalists, refer directly to the Venice Commission and register a project to abolish the language law,” Portnov said.

Odessa blogger and editor-in-chief of the publication Timer Yuri Tkachev positively assessed the initiative of Maxim Buzhansky.

“This is really right and good, and it would be very interesting to see how this gets voted on. “Would” – because the resolution most likely will not make it into the session hall. And Buzhansky, I think, understands this. But a negative result in this case is also a result.

I mean, yes, it's a publicity stunt. But this is the right PR, the PR of a healthy person.

Actually, it always seemed to me that Buzhansky, despite some dislocations, was the right person. And how he was brought into this lousy gang, and even into Kolomoisky’s group, I never understood,” Tkachev wrote in his Telegram channel.
