The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine today adopted in the first reading two bills that harmonize national legislation with European legislation in the field of intellectual property, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

A deputy from the “Will of the People” faction, Yevgeny Rybchinsky, believes that the adoption of such laws is especially important for Ukraine.

“We are almost the number one pirate country. We have already jumped the bar when we were second after Russia. We only have a billion-dollar claim from Microsoft. Because we have been using so-called dumpling programs for 25 years,” said Rybchinsky.

However, he believes that the use of Microsoft programs is not piracy in the full sense of the word.

“Our only comment to Microsoft is why they didn’t make the program in Ukrainian. Our Ukrainian language is included in the Constitution, and everything that is written in Russian does not imply pure piracy. It’s indirect,” Rybczynski said.
