The Rada attacked FIFA with accusations due to the punishment of the Croats
Ukraine should officially support Croatian footballer Domagoj Vida, who was warned by FIFA for using a Ukrainian nationalist slogan “Glory to Ukraine” after the match with the Russian team.
Verkhovna Rada deputy, member of the nationalist party VO “Svoboda” Andriy Ilyenko said this on air on the 112 Ukraine TV channel.
“In general, of course, it’s a sad reaction to this story, because FIFA wasn’t worried that Russia, a country that killed at least ten thousand Ukrainians, is killing people in Syria, seizing other people’s territories, carrying out political assassinations abroad, interfering in other people’s elections, taking political hostages - all this did not affect FIFA’s decision to hold the World Cup in Russia, to give the Putin regime a colossal propaganda platform.
Everything that concerns Russia was not an argument for FIFA. And here, it turns out, the slogan “Glory to Ukraine” is extremist, incorrect, these football players need to be disqualified, they are given official warnings,” the deputy was indignant.
The nationalist believes that there was terrible pressure on the Croatian federation, as a result of which former football player Ognjen Vukojevic, who was part of the coaching staff of the Croatian team and was fined by FIFA 15 thousand Swiss francs for using the slogan “Glory to Ukraine,” was fired from the national team.
“FIFA must suffer reputational losses for such a position. Well, what’s wrong with the slogan “Glory to Ukraine”? Of course, we need to support these Croatian players. We must protect them because these are our friends, these are people who took a courageous step. There must be statements, perhaps official ones, from Ukraine in support of these people so that these attacks stop. Because tomorrow anyone for the slogan “Glory to Ukraine” can come under these attacks,” Ilyenko said.
