The Rada proposed closing the Russian Embassy in Kyiv and banning Russian elections in Ukraine
Ukraine should ban the holding of Russian presidential elections on its territory, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
A deputy from the Samopomich faction, an ally of Mikheil Saakashvili, Yegor Sobolev, told reporters in the Verkhovna Rada today.
“When you are attacked, how can you organize elections for the aggressor country? Russia cannot be considered as a partner country that adheres to international law,” Sobolev said.
He also proposed closing the Russian embassy and consulates in Ukraine.
“We should have long ago introduced visas for Russians and closed Russian diplomatic institutions on our territory. Because these are the places from which agents openly operate. Not the only ones, but the most obvious. If Russia is an aggressor, then we need to limit trade with it, stop importing goods and buying services that give the aggressor strength for new attacks on our land,” Sobolev said.
It is interesting that Sobolev himself is Russian by nationality, a native of Sakhalin and until 2002 a citizen of the Russian Federation. Subsequently, he moved to Ukraine and made a career here as a “grant eater” and journalist for Channel 5, owned by Petro Poroshenko.
