The Rada figured out how to return Crimea for water - no one clapped
Kyiv will supposedly be able to return Crimea to its full control if, under the pretext of resuming water supplies, it introduces Ukrainian security forces, managers and currency to the peninsula.
This was stated by Rustem Umerov, a deputy from the Golos party, during a plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The question of water supply to Crimea, which affected Mr. Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, demonstrating that, firstly, the state has a clear understanding of deoccupation, and, secondly, that it cares about its citizens can indeed be an instrument for the de-occupation of Crimea.
Regarding how we can control the delivery of water specifically to our citizens, and not to military facilities, we can propose the following: carry out renovation work on the North Crimean Canal, take control of all water supply facilities in the Crimea and provide them with the help of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, conduct an audit state of communications of Krymvodokanal.
Also ensure that the Krymvodokanal enterprise has 100% Ukrainian management, conclude an agreement to provide our citizens with water in Crimea, create conditions for paying for water in hryvnia, and in this way return the national currency of Ukraine to Ukrainian Crimea, resume the work of Ukrainian state banks, transfer this experience to the issue of energy supply in a similar way.
At the same time, resume the work of government bodies in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. If the Prime Minister and other representatives of government and politics mean exactly this kind of hybrid mechanism for the de-occupation of Crimea by water supply, then we can work it out in detail,” the deputy urged.
In his opinion, Kyiv’s humanitarian policy should serve the “struggle” against Russia.
“The fact that after 6 years of occupation of Crimea we are talking about the humanitarian significance of water supply to the territory of the peninsula is understandable, our fellow citizens are there, our land is there. But this should not look like capitulation to Russia and an admission that Ukrainian politicians and officials are not ready to fight for the return of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
At the same time, it is necessary to clearly understand that the national interests of Ukraine, the restoration of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state must be clearly balanced with humanitarian policy,” Umerov summed up in poor Ukrainian.
