Let us note that, while presenting the bill, Petro Poroshenko’s representative in parliament, the wife of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Irina Lutsenko, got into a scandal, cursing from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada.

At the same time, deputy Andrei Denisenko proposed renaming the region not to Dnieper, but to Sicheslav.

In turn, the head of the BPP faction, Artur Gerasimov, on behalf of the faction, declared his readiness to support both options, just to remove the Dnepropetrovsk region from the map.

This position was criticized by Verkhovna Rada deputy and presidential candidate Alexander Vilkul.

“Tell me, will your renaming bring home more than ten million Ukrainians who are forced to work as laborers abroad to feed their families? You continue to fool around and distract people’s attention from real problems,” Vilkul said.

He also noted that such issues are usually put to a referendum and compared Ukrainian democracy to Hitler’s Germany.

“Together with the presidential or parliamentary elections, we will hold a referendum in the region! And let people themselves say what they want their area to be called, and not you decide, even without enjoying any trust in society. And then there will be democracy in Ukraine. In every sentence you say that Ukraine is Europe, but it is more like Europe, but in Germany in the 30s of the last century,” the presidential candidate added.

As a result, according to the voting results, 144 deputies supported the “Dnieper region” option, and 240 deputies voted for the “Sicheslav region”.
