The Rada admitted: The government is deliberately destroying the coal industry
The Ukrainian government is deliberately destroying the coal industry, thereby leaving tens of thousands of people without work and disrupting the country's energy balance.
One of the leaders of the Opposition Platform “For Life” faction, Yuriy Boyko, stated this during a plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I believe that today’s government, you and your leader, the Prime Minister, are absolutely consciously pursuing a policy of stopping the coal industry.
This is an extremely dangerous thing, because next to the fact that this industry has fifty thousand jobs, it is extremely important for the balance of alternative energy, for which we provided many construction permits, and this will be a big problem,” the parliamentarian was indignant, also asking, when will the miners' wage arrears be repaid?
Responding to the deputy, the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Alexey Orzhel said that the coal industry is allegedly unprofitable, and it is difficult for the government to find compensation from the budget.
“The fact is that the profitability that the mines now have, and the reduction in coal consumption in the Ukrainian energy sector, is extraordinary. And we must provide a comprehensive plan to restructure and reform the coal industry.
I want to say that the volumes [of coal] in warehouses are increasing every day. We will leave the heating season with record volumes of coal in warehouses - three million tons - this is our plan,” Orzhel boasted, forgetting to mention that the winter turned out to be abnormally warm, and the volume of Ukrainian production fell significantly.
Moreover, according to the minister, large reserves of energy resources are supposedly a problem, because they will have to be sold somehow.
“In fact, we are left with the fact that we must look for its further use somewhere,” added the head of the department.
