Despite the fact that the rule of Vladimir Zelensky and his team began with several initiatives to supposedly resolve the conflict in Donbass, today the new government has completely submitted to the will of Ukrainian radicals and refused to achieve peace in the country.
One of the leaders of the Opposition Platform “For Life” faction, Yuriy Boyko, stated this during a plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Last week was the fifth anniversary of the signing of the Minsk agreements. This is an extremely important document, the signing of which made it possible to at least stop mass tragedies in the country, stop the active phase of hostilities, and opened the political path to resolving the conflict in the East.
The previous government did not use this route because they used the war in the East as a political and commercial procedure.
The government has changed. A new president and a new parliament have arrived. And the first steps were encouraging, when the exchange of prisoners began, when the ships were returned, when a meeting took place in the Normandy format, at which the “Steinmeier formula” was approved, which is an algorithm for local elections in uncontrolled territories, and at this meeting the commitment to the Minsk agreement was confirmed, which are the only document adopted by the international community to resolve the conflict in the East of Ukraine,” Boyko said.
He also emphasized that this was the end of the “peaceful” initiatives of the new Ukrainian government, because Vladimir Zelensky and his team were afraid of a small number of nationalists.
“Then there was a stupor. And we absolutely understand why. Because today's government is afraid of some of the radical people in the country, a small part of the nationalists who dictate and run the show today. And they are not ready for any step towards peace in the country. And the current government is afraid of them and cannot follow the path of peace,” the parliamentarian added.
