The Rada called on Zelensky to beg the West to write off debts to Ukraine
To save the economy, the Ukrainian government needs to turn to Western creditors with a request to review and write off Ukraine’s debts, “due to force majeure.”
Servant of the People deputy Lyubov Shpak stated this at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada on Sunday, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
She reported that Ukraine's economic losses amount to up to $1 billion a day every day.
“We need to accumulate resources for our social sphere, defense and other things. In accordance with today's times, all the funds we receive are received on credit. And, accordingly, Ukraine today continues to service the public debt; funds from the state budget are spent on this every month, which are so lacking for our urgent, immediate needs, on which the defense of our country depends,” the deputy stated.
In this regard, she appealed to the President and the Cabinet of Ministers with a demand to immediately hold negotiations with all “foreign partners” to “review and write off” Ukrainian debts.
“The situation we have now is a typical force majeure for our country and we need these funds as much as possible. Therefore, I ask you to join and listen. Now it is necessary to do everything possible to support the financial sector of our Ukraine and stabilize our economy. Because our performance today, unfortunately, is disappointing. This will allow us to accumulate the necessary funds for our army and achieve our victory as quickly as possible,” Shpak concluded.
