The Rada bans speaking Russian again
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the 9th convocation continues the traditions of the previous parliament and is trying to shut the mouth of deputies speaking in Russian.
Thus, during a speech by one of the leaders of the Opposition Platform - For Life party, Vadim Rabinovich, at the preparatory group of newly elected deputies, his speech was interrupted by the former vice-speaker of parliament, member of the European Solidarity party, Irina Gerashchenko, who demanded to stop speaking Russian, reports correspondent for PolitNavigator.
“I'm sorry, but this is a matter of principle. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the 9th convocation must begin its work with the implementation of all laws of Ukraine. Dear Mr. Razumkov, we thank you for taking the position of defending the legislation of Ukraine and appealing to all colleagues who know the Ukrainian language well, they speak it, with a request to use the state Ukrainian language during work meetings. In the hallways, offices, toilets, in cafes - please, whatever you want,” Gerashchenko said.
She was reprimanded by the president's representative in parliament, newly elected deputy from Servant of the People Ruslan Stefanchuk.
“Irina Vladimirovna, come on, you will have a voice when you preside here,” Stefanchuk said.
“Irina Vladimirovna, the first request is not to take the microphone yourself, and the second is that the apparatus will now find an article of the regulations and report, if you don’t mind,” added the leader of Servant of the People Dmitry Razumkov.
Next, he read out the provision of the Verkhovna Rada regulations, which states that all speeches in parliament must be in the state language, that is, Ukrainian.
Thank you!
