The Rada announced the return of strict censorship in the media
The presence of members of Ukrainian radical organizations at a meeting of the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting during the consideration of the issue of revoking the license of the NewsOne TV channel indicates that the Kyiv authorities have returned to a policy of harsh pressure on objectionable media.
This was stated by one of the leaders of the “Opposition Platform – For Life”, Yuriy Boyko, during the conciliation council of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Last week, from her point of view, a shameful event occurred, which is called the submission by the National Commission on Television and Radio Broadcasting of a proposal to liquidate the license of the NewsOne TV channel to the court. This kind of pressure on freedom of speech has not been seen for a long time, and what happened last week raises serious threats to freedom of speech in the country. I would like to remind you that in countries where there is censorship and pressure on freedom of speech, there are no prospects for economic development at all.
And what is especially shameful is that at the meetings of the National Council the same nationalist radical organizations and their representatives were used, which staged many provocations in past years. I want to remind you that “C14”, which appeared at that meeting, and their representatives were the main provocateurs when they beat up elderly people near the Vatutin monument two years ago.
And the same characters who have been forgotten over the past few months are appearing today. This is shameful, this is unacceptable and causes indignation, including among those who watch TV channels and understand that tomorrow the same characters may come to them. We are categorically against such a policy,” Boyko noted.
Let us recall that earlier Kiev political scientist Ruslan Bortnik expressed the opinion that the threat of closing the NewsOne TV channel is being used by those around President Vladimir Zelensky to pressure on the head of the political council of the “Opposition Platform – For Life” Viktor Medvedchuk, which should become more accommodating in terms of publicly criticizing the actions of the Ukrainian authorities and transferring negotiation channels with Moscow to official Kyiv.
