The corresponding bill No. 7017 was submitted to the Verkhovna Rada by Poroshenko’s representative in parliament Irina Lutsenko and the chairman of the BPP faction Artur Gerasimov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
They propose to introduce punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to 3 years for illegal crossing of the state border of Ukraine by Russians (or persons with other citizenship in the interests of the Russian Federation). In particular, we are talking about entering the territory of Ukraine outside checkpoints, without the necessary documents or with documents containing false information.
If such a violation is committed repeatedly or by a group of persons, the liability is increased - imprisonment from 3 to 5 years.
The most severe punishment is provided for the described violation with the use of weapons - imprisonment for up to 8 years.
The explanatory note states that Ukrainian legislation now provides for only administrative liability for illegally crossing the state border: a 1700-3400 UAH fine or administrative arrest for up to 15 days; and in case of violation by a group or repeatedly within a year - a fine of 3400 to 8500 UAH.
It is noteworthy that citizens of other countries for similar violations are still only proposed to be fined and expelled.
