The BBC reported this today.
As noted, the 71-year-old IOC member is suspected of illegally transferring tickets to a reseller for selling them at inflated prices.
A day earlier, a man was detained in Rio with 800 tickets to competitions, which he had no right to sell.
Hickey, who also heads the Irish National Olympic Committee, attempted to escape when arrested, police said.
After police knocked on the door, the IOC member slid his Olympic pass under the door and then fled to a nearby hotel room where his son had until recently lived, police said.
After Hickey's arrest, he became ill and received medical attention.
According to Brazilian media, Hickey's arrest may be related to the detention of Kevin James Mallon on the day of the opening ceremony. Mallon headed THG Sports, which was also allegedly involved in the illegal resale of Olympic tickets. The company denies these violations.
