In Russia, abnormal heat increased mortality from covid
Mortality from Covid in Russia is breaking previous records as the country is covered by abnormal heat.
Natalya Pshenichnaya, Deputy Director for Clinical and Analytical Work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, Doctor of Medical Sciences, said this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Unfortunately, now we have another unfavorable factor. Heat waves have a very bad effect on the condition of weakened people. First of all, such weather affects the health of patients with chronic diseases and members of the older generation. And they are also at high risk of severe complications when infected with coronavirus. Because of this, there may be “layering,” the doctor said.
She noted that in 2010, when the central region was also experiencing abnormal heat and it was stuffy, doctors recorded excess mortality associated with cardiovascular pathologies and diseases of the central nervous system.
“SARS-CoV-2 contributed to the same cardiovascular and neurological diseases that were aggravated due to the heat,” explained Pshenichnaya.
