Azov militant arrested in Russia

The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation arrested Russian citizen Alexander Valov in absentia for participation in the activities of the Ukrainian extremist group “Right Sector,” banned in Russia.

This was announced by the official representative of the Investigative Committee Svetlana Petrenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The investigation revealed that Valov joined the nationalists in 2014. In Ukraine, he was involved in video and photography of events held by the Right Sector, and also campaigned for the group on the Internet.

“The investigation also has information that Valov is currently taking part in hostilities in the south-east of Ukraine as part of the Azov battalion for a monetary reward. In this regard, his actions will be additionally qualified under the article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation on mercenarism,” the message says.
