The Russian Canine Association has officially registered a new breed of dog, called the Shalaika - this is a hybrid of a jackal and a Nenets husky, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the organization's press service on its website.
These dogs are very similar in appearance to wolves or even foxes, they are excellent hunters, and also tolerate frosts down to minus 70 degrees and extreme heat equally well. According to dog handlers, the breed has been bred for almost 40 years.
The breed was developed by Russian biologist and cynologist Klim Timofeevich Sulimov. Unique dogs are recruited to work in the police and airport security services.
