Deputy Pavel Krasheninnikov said this today, speaking at the State Duma of the Russian Federation, presenting a bill to toughen punishment for “telephone terrorism.”
“We are forced to propose such a norm as punishment for the corresponding acts that resulted in death through negligence. There were also such cases,” Krasheninnikov said.
Previously, punishment for “telephone terrorism” was practically not applied in Russia, since it was mainly schoolchildren who called to disrupt classes. Now the situation has changed.
“There are cases when in a particular locality a particular area comes under attack. And there are drunk, offended citizens. The courts are called to disrupt sentencing. It is necessary to highlight the part of calls that are made not from the territory of the Russian Federation, and pay special attention to it. There are cities where little of this happens, but there is no guarantee that tomorrow they will not be overwhelmed by this wave,” Krasheninnikov said.
The bill, passed today in its first reading, provides for a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison for acts of “telephone terrorism.”
