“The detention of the highest-ranking official once again confirms the position of the state: there are no untouchables in Russia. Everyone who takes a criminal step must understand that everything secret sooner or later becomes clear,” Poklonskaya wrote on her Facebook page.

She urged not to make hasty conclusions.

“We are based only on data from the media. Only investigators have confirmed materials, which, of course, are not subject to disclosure during the pre-trial investigation. What the final procedural decision will be will be determined taking into account the collected evidence. If there is evidence confirming the minister's guilt, the case will be sent to court. Time will tell how the court will consider this case,” Poklonskaya wrote.

The Russian Investigative Committee detained Alexey Ulyukaev on suspicion of receiving $2 million for a positive assessment issued by the Ministry of Economic Development, which allowed the transaction to acquire the state stake in Bashneft to take place. In the near future, the investigation plans to bring charges against Ulyukaev and petition for the election of a preventive measure.
