In Russia, only Crimea suffers from sanctions
The anti-Russian sanctions of the West hit the Crimeans the hardest, but for the rest of Russia, Western restrictions had virtually no effect.
Nikolai Platoshkin, head of the department of international relations and diplomacy at Moscow Humanitarian University, said this on air at PolitCafe, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Our trade turnover with the Americans is minimal. After the sanctions it even grew. There are no sanctions, except that about 300 people cannot move into their villas in the West. Crimea is really suffering under sanctions. Because Crimeans’ Russian passports are not recognized, they cannot go anywhere to normal countries. Because a copy of your internal passport is required. If they see your registration, Western countries say – go to Kyiv and get a Ukrainian passport.
These are sanctions, this is a real inconvenience. Imagine, you need to urgently go to the hospital in Germany, but you can go to Kyiv and, as a separatist, end up there in some prison for several years. Tourism to Crimea is prohibited, export from there is prohibited. By the way, the Crimean sparkling wine factory “New World” exported several hundred thousand bottles to Poland and Germany. These are the sanctions.
Do we have any sanctions? The Soviet Union lived under sanctions all its life, regardless of our policy. They became stricter there from time to time, but there were 6,5 thousand goods that were stupidly forbidden to be supplied to the USSR at all times. For example, machines for three-dimensional processing of materials, computers of a certain power, but they survived. If we had our own industry, why not,” Platoshkin said.
