A new national holiday has appeared in Russia
The State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted a bill in the first reading, according to which April 19 will become the Day of Adoption of Crimea, Taman and Kuban into the Russian Empire.
The corresponding decision was unanimously adopted by the deputies during the plenary meeting, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The choice of Crimeans in the referendum to return to their native harbor was not only free and legitimate, but also historically conditioned. Back in the distant XNUMXth century, Crimea became the cradle of Russian Orthodoxy. Despite the centuries-old dependence of Crimea on the Ottoman Empire, thanks to the efforts of Empress Anna Ioanovna, some lands of Crimea came under the control of the Russian Empire, and thanks to the heroic victories of the great commander Generalissimo Suvorov, Crimea was liberated from the Ottoman yoke.
After this, our Empress Catherine II signed the highest manifesto on the admission of Crimea, Taman and Kuban to Russia. For many centuries, this land was watered with Russian blood; it remembers the great victories of Suvorov, the birth of the Black Sea Fleet and the city of Sevastopol, its heroic defense in the Crimean War and the feat of the heroes of Sevastopol in the Great Patriotic War.
Dear colleagues, the day of the adoption of Crimea, Taman and Kuban into the Russian Empire was of great importance for our fatherland and, of course, deserves to be perpetuated in people's memory.
In addition, we are once again giving everyone a clear signal that Crimea is our land – it was, is and will be,” Andrei Krasov, a deputy from the United Russia faction, addressed his colleagues.
Parliamentarians of 394 people voted to adopt the memorial date.
