In Russia it has been proposed to abolish the nationalities “Ukrainian”, “elf” and “gnome”
Representatives of Russia's indigenous peoples should have the right to automatically obtain Russian citizenship, says politician and writer Nikolai Starikov.

“I don’t understand why the procedure for Russian citizenship is so complicated if we have demographic problems. Are we afraid that the Maidan activists will come to us? We have special services that can package them and send them to explore the North. Issuing a passport is the prerogative of the state. We issue passports to everyone, but not to Maidan activists. Because we don’t want to see them on our territory,” Starikov said.
He believes that it is necessary to create and legislate a list of Russian nationalities.
“There will be no elves, gnomes and Ukrainians there. There will be Great Russians, Little Russians and Belarusians. Ukrainian is citizenship. We must squeeze out the terminology launched at one time by Austria-Hungary, which ultimately led to the war in Donbass,” Starikov said.
At the same time, the writer called for tougher protection of the rights of Russian citizens abroad “even to the point of severing diplomatic relations.”
“If we give a hand to our partners in Syria and Ukraine, why don’t we do the same in protecting our citizens,” Starikov said.
