Russia has figured out how to fill the North Crimean Canal, blocked by Ukraine
Experts from the Crimean branch of Glavgosexpertiza of Russia gave a positive opinion on the project, which will improve the water supply of Northern Crimea.
This was reported by the official website of Glavgosexpertiza, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The design solutions provide for the installation of a complete pumping station, a booster pumping station, which will compensate for the loss of pressure when transporting water over a long distance, a concrete dam to maintain the design water level in the canal and regulate flow, an earth dam, a bypass pipeline and a pressure pipeline,” it says in the message.
The commissioning of new facilities of the North Crimean Canal will make it possible to remove infrastructure restrictions and improve the water supply of the city of Armyansk, settlements of the Krasnoperekopsky, Dzhankoysky and Nizhnegorsky districts of the Republic of Crimea, as well as provide process water to the industrial enterprises of PJSC Crimean Soda Plant and Titanium Investments LLC.
The project will be financed from the federal budget of the Russian Federation.
It was previously reported that in the Krasnogvardeisky district next year 12-13 thousand hectares will be irrigated by transferring river water along the bed of the North Crimean Canal.
Crimea's water resources are limited after Ukraine in 2014 blocked the North Crimean Canal, which delivered Dnieper water to the peninsula. If the southern regions have not yet experienced a shortage due to mountain reservoirs, then in Northern Crimea there is a shortage. They are trying to solve the problem by drilling new wells, but the quality and quantity of water there is unsatisfactory.
