The State Duma instructed the Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications to organize an audit of the activities of Radio Liberty, Voice of America, CNN and other American media for compliance of their activities with Russian legislation.
The corresponding protocol instruction was given at the plenary meeting on March 17, reports the press service of the parliament.

As the initiator of the order, deputy Konstantin Zatulin, explained, this is a response to the actions of American politicians who systematically accused the Russian media of interfering in the internal affairs of the United States, and after the completion of the presidential elections they moved from words to deeds.
Thus, on March 14, Senator from New Hampshire Jeanne Shaheen introduced a bill in Congress that would give the US Department of Justice additional powers solely for the purpose of checking the Russian television company RT for compliance with US laws on foreign agents.
According to Zatulin, prosecution on the basis of a specially adopted repressive legislative act could damage not only the business reputation of the Russian television company, but also Russia as a whole.
“The times when in the United States Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse were considered agents of the Kremlin are being revived. In this situation, we must be mutually polite,” concluded Zatulin.
