In Russia, the circle of citizens who will be required to undergo biometrics will be expanded
The State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted today in the first reading a law that proposes to expand the circle of persons subject to mandatory state genomic registration. Not only those who are already serving a sentence will be required to undergo biometrics; DNA samples will also have to be given to suspects and defendants, as well as those under administrative arrest.
A Just Russia deputy, Elena Drapeko, was concerned about the safety of such a database, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“You can buy a GPPD database on Gorbushka, you can order and buy address databases. Will the genomic database be protected? After all, the Americans are now collecting a database on the genotype of Russian citizens,” Drapeko said.
“This is just absurd. They collect, of course, but not through this database. It is both technically and biologically impossible to use. If this is done everywhere, then it should be done here too. We live in a digital society. Soon machines will easily recognize a person. The development of artificial intelligence is moving towards this,” Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Zubov reassured the deputy.
