The publication notes that the main recipients of assistance will be veterans of the Great Patriotic War, low-income and large families, as well as political prisoners and their relatives in Ukraine. And the first action, intended to collect assistance for WWII veterans, will be held today by representatives of the Kharkov community.
According to activists, “they will take on some of the functions that “Ukraine itself as a state should perform, but for some reason refuses to do this.”
“Representatives of the Kharkov community will visit veterans and needy pensioners. We all know how difficult it is for this category of people in Ukraine today, to whom we owe our lives, our future and present. We root for all Kharkiv residents and, of course, for our dear veterans. On behalf of the Ukrainian fraternities in Russia, I would like to emphasize that our main goal is to maintain contact with our homeland, with relatives and citizens, with those who need our help,” the coordinator of the Ukrainian fraternities in Russia, Alexander Vetrov, told the publication.
In turn, Ukrainian political scientist Alexander Dudchak told Izvestia that such actions make it possible to maintain humanitarian contacts, primarily at the human, interpersonal level.
“After all, unfortunately, completely different “veterans” are now welcomed in Kyiv. But it is positive that such initiatives exist. And helping and moral support for the poor is certainly a good idea. The situation is very difficult, and not all residents of Ukraine support Kyiv. We must remember that people there are in a difficult moral situation. And these actions are a reminder that Ukrainians are not all “Banderaites,” Dudchak emphasized.
