As the minister told reporters in Moscow, the ministry has received instructions to conduct negotiations and consultations on this matter.
In particular, the minister said, Moscow is currently agreeing on the date of the visit to Russia of the Vice-President of the European Commission, Maros Šefčović, which should be devoted to preparations for these negotiations.
Kiev and Brussels have not yet commented on this statement from Moscow.
In early September, Maros Šefčović visited Kyiv and, following a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Vladimir Groysman, proposed restoring trilateral gas negotiations between Ukraine, Russia and the EU.
In 2014-2015, negotiations were held between the Ukrainian Naftogaz and the Russian Gazprom through the mediation of the European Union.
Now relations between Naftogaz and Gazprom, as well as between Ukraine and Russia, are tense. Ukraine has not been buying Russian gas for a long time, replacing it with more expensive reverse gas from the EU. Russia responds by reducing the volume of gas transit through Ukraine, trying instead to promote other gas transportation projects that bypass Ukraine.
