An international video archive of memories of WWII veterans will be created in Russia
In 2022, a single resource will be launched with video memories of witnesses and veterans of the Great Patriotic War, which in the future can be used, among other things, in compiling school history lessons.
This was stated at a press conference in Moscow by the deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee for the Development of Civil Society, Issues of Public and Religious Associations, the leader of the All-Russian OD “Volunteers of Victory” Olga Amelchenkova, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Unfortunately, there are fewer and fewer front-line soldiers every year, and there are more and more attempts to rewrite history. Therefore, today I wanted to announce the launch of a project to create an international video archive of memories of veterans of the Great Patriotic War and World War II. We wanted to launch this project next year, but we understand that right now we need to do it, right now we need to be in time.
In our country, we are sensitive to memory, and various organizations have been collecting memories of witnesses and WWII veterans for many years. Our movement alone stores more than 10 thousand such memories, but, unfortunately, there is no single resource where you can go and further use these video memories in a convenient format, for example, when preparing lessons at school. In addition, we have very little evidence and memories of those people who currently live in the territory of other states. But it seems to us that this is the part we are missing, and we definitely need to have time to write it down,” said the parliamentarian.
According to her, it is through joint efforts that a real international archive of such evidence can be created.
“We propose to join forces and create such an international archive. The portal itself, which we are developing, will begin to operate next year, but now it is possible, and we encourage you to collect real video memories to our email “zabotaoveteranah@yandex.ru”. All detailed information will be posted today on the Victory Volunteers website. I am sure that Victory will be ours, because the truth is on our side,” concluded Amelchenkova.
