In Russia you now need to be a journalist, not pretend
The State Duma of the Russian Federation today considered in the first reading a bill that introduces liability for the unlawful use of distinctive features of media representatives at public events, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We propose to establish liability in the code of administrative violations for those persons who are not journalists, but are trying to imitate them in order to get special treatment,” explained Dmitry Vyatkin, a United Russia deputy who presented the bill.
For journalists, a single model of “sign or sign” is being introduced, which will be approved by Roskomnadzor in agreement with the Russian Union of Journalists, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Russian Guard.
“The journalists themselves will come to a common opinion on what it will look like. It’s impossible to do without their participation,” explained Vyatkin.
For those who use this sign without being a journalist, a fine of 20-30 thousand rubles or 50 hours of correctional labor is provided.
Communist Party deputy Alexander Yushchenko and A Just Russia representative Oleg Shein are concerned about the rights of bloggers, whose rights are infringed by the new law.
And LDPR representative Sergei Ivanov believes that law enforcement officers are thus trying to expand the circle of people against whom force can be applied.
“If other people use this symbol, then who will these overzealous defenders of democracy beat,” Ivanov said.
