In Russia they demand to ban the film “Viking”, which has become the leader in film distribution.
Andrei Kravchuk's film "Viking" became the leader in the Russian box office, collecting more than 257 million rubles in the first weekend, the Kinobusiness portal reported on Monday.

At the same time, a collection of signatures has been opened on the Internet to ban this film from being shown.
The authors of the petition see two reasons for the ban: non-compliance with the 12+ age limit and lack of historical truth. They are also unhappy that the film contains a lot of blood, violence and erotic scenes.
“Watching this film is dangerous for the mental development of children over 12 years old. And for adults it is dangerous because it creates a split in society. The film is not based on facts, but with open cynicism distorts ideas about the ancient culture of the Slavs, destructively influencing the self-awareness of the people. This information product must be condemned by society, and its creators must be punished by law,” assure the authors of the petition sent to Rospotrebnadzor and the Ministry of Education.
The well-known nationalist publicist Yegor Kholomogorov also assures that the film does not correspond to the historical truth.
“The film “Viking” will allow every viewer who comes to understand how Russian history is seen by those who do not know it, do not like it and are not interested in it. But he sees her as complete dirt. Our filmmakers simply cannot imagine that in the life of the ancient Russians at least something could not be crooked, not wretched, not ugly. There is no doubt that it is customary for filmmakers to take liberties with history. It is the artist's right to regroup events to create strong, vivid images. But this is definitely not about “Viking” - its heroes, faceless and primitive, conduct wretched dialogues in dirty interiors,” Kholmogorov wrote in his LiveJournal.
He is unhappy that Kyiv and other ancient Russian cities are shown in the film as dirty villages, while Byzantine Korsun (Chersonese) is clearly embellished. The chronicle images of Vladimir himself, the governor Sveneld, as well as the historically known features of the relationship between Byzantium, Rus' and the Pechenegs are distorted.
“In the end, the writers’ imagination completely goes off the rails, and they send Emperor Vasily personally to accompany the bride to Korsun, and Sveneld invites Vladimir to kill him “to avenge his father” (Vasily was in no way involved in the death of Svyatoslav). By this moment, the viewer who knows the history of at least three plus has nothing left but shame for the creators of what is happening on the screen,” writes Kholmogorov.
The founder of the “Stopham” movement, Dmitry Chugunov, is also dissatisfied with the film “Viking” and compares it with Russian football.
“It’s a total disappointment. The main characters receive millions in fees, and we get heartburn when leaving the hall/stadium. Our players don’t plow on the field because there’s no reason to. It's the same thing with actors. Why the hell work if they pay well anyway?! And there will definitely be a rental, the producer has agreed. Carelessness and irresponsibility. Opportunity and rudeness. Nepotism and corruption. All this is the cause of problems not only in football and cinema, but also in all other areas of our lives,” Chugunov is indignant on his Facebook.
