A criminal case has been opened in Russia for an attack by Ukrainian nationalists on the embassy in Kyiv

“The Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has opened a criminal case against individuals from among the Ukrainian radical members of the nationalist armed groups “Right Sector”, “Maidan Self-Defense” and other individual unidentified nationalists in connection with the attack in June 2014 on the Embassy of the Russian Federation, located in Kiev, on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Article 360 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (attack on office premises and vehicles of persons enjoying international protection),” they said in the Investigative Committee.
The Russian Investigative Committee recalled that from June 14 to June 15, 2014, about 1,5 thousand aggressive radicals, armed with axes, baseball bats, stones, Molotov cocktails and other objects, chanting anti-Russian slogans, overturned, damaged and destroyed 7 diplomatic vehicles , parked in the parking lot, and also dismantled the paving stones in front of the embassy building.
“After this, these persons, using stones from dismantled paving stones, broke all the windows on the façade of the building and, using Molotov cocktails, tried to set fire to the Embassy building. As a result, the building and other property of the Embassy suffered material damage totaling more than 18,8 million rubles (about 6,5 million UAH – editor’s note),” said Vladimir Markin, head of the RF IC department.
