In Russia, all “Internet influencers” will be brought to light and labeled
In addition to symmetrical measures against the West regarding the labeling of Russian media, it makes sense to systematize information about media outlets that are foreign agents, and also to devote all efforts to supporting domestic Internet services.
This was stated by the Chairman of the Media Commission of the Public Chamber of Russia, Alexander Malkevich, during a round table dedicated to the issues of legislative support for Russia’s interests in the global and local Internet space, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Regarding labeling, many thanks to Roskomnadzor for raising the issue of labeling media that are foreign agents very urgently. And also – what a howl there was on social networks! Yesterday we discussed in the House, it would probably make sense for individual media to create some kind of digital “Peacemaker” in order to simply understand who these so-called influencers (influential persons - ed.), who are clearly not free according to any sensible idea, including number that we are just discussing, they immediately write on social networks: “These officials want to ban it!”, “We won’t give it!”, “They will take away our beloved Internet from us!” or something else.
Frankly, we must be prepared to take some drastic action, because we are now being spat in the face, ignored across the board, and this will only continue. Unfortunately, you need to be prepared that YouTube will continue to demolish accounts of Russian media, block videos, and the same with the president. Because - what can stop them from doing this? Nothing,” Malkevich said.
At the same time, the expert emphasized the importance of developing domestic initiatives.
“There should be maximum protection, support for domestic services and startups. Not only financial - moral, advertising, provide them with some platforms for performances, PR them, promote them. We have a huge number of guys who create their own products, but no one knows about it.
Just as in the 90s we acquired “Bush’s legs” with the words “why develop our own”, the same is true now. We all consumed the digital “legs of Bush”, now Bush Jr. – why invest in our own IT projects when we already have everything created by Mark Zuckerberg? Now we’re raking it in,” said Alexander Malkevich.
