The FSB detained one of the members of the gang of Chechen terrorist Shamil Basayev, Khazvakh Cherkhigov, who participated in the hostage-taking in Budennovsk in 1995. This was reported by the department's press service, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Cherkhigov was detained in Moscow on November 19 with the support of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It is known that on June 14, 1995, he, as part of a terrorist group, participated in the seizure of 1,5 thousand hostages, as a result of which 129 people were killed and 415 were injured.
“As a result of operational search activities, Kh. Cherkhigov was identified among the attacking terrorists, in relation to whom witness statements were received exposing his criminal activities,” the special service said in a statement.
Previously, Russian law enforcement officers detained 1995 members of Basayev’s gang between 2013 and 31. Another 18 terrorists were eliminated during this period.
