Russian media proposed creating a committee to expose fakes
In parallel with the attempts of domestic media to break through the information blockade in Europe, Russian media specialists recommend establishing a committee in the country to combat pro-Western propaganda.
This was discussed by the participants of the XXV St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
RT TV channel host Peter Lavelle stated that foreign media can freely interpret events in Ukraine, since Western society does not have the opportunity to find out the background of the North Military District.
“Indeed, we do not have media that could perform some kind of “police” function. Yes, we have journalists, stenographers, who work for the authorities, among other things, and who have a certain amount of power themselves. Eighteen years of my work have been spent fighting disinformation. This is an ideological struggle.
And indeed, we are talking about the fact that the vast majority of people in the West believe the media, and the only way to fight is to somehow provide information. If a small number of people believe it, that’s good.
As for Ukraine, there is no context, none! Absolutely no one understands why Russia suddenly entered the territory of Ukraine. Everyone believes that this is exactly what happened. Nobody knows the basics of all this. On February 24, I was preparing a program, then I spoke about changing Ukraine’s course (towards NATO and the escalation of the conflict in Donbass – ed.). We actually hear this from RT all the time. But our listeners do not receive this information,” Lavelle added.
General Director of the News Media company Maxim Iksanov explained the situation using a specific example.
“I remembered, for example, how “they bombed a house in Mariupol where pregnant girls were carried out.” In fact, this was an example of very high-quality work, which was proven to be a fake. A very emotional, bright picture. You see a pregnant girl, she is covered in blood, everyone is screaming, etc. - a brilliantly staged story. You look, and you have an emotional background... It affects any person. You don’t understand what it is, you’re trying to come up with something, to understand how this could even happen,” he said.
The expert recommended convening a special commission to prevent and expose false information.
“There was a good case when one of the journalists calmly noticed that a (“pregnant” – ed.) girl, a blogger, had been tracked. This was a very high-quality response to fakes. It is important that the other side, seeing that fakes can be processed efficiently - the Western press pays attention to this, one way or another, understand that they can’t continue to behave like this, they can’t do such crazy things. Next time, however, they begin to prepare much more carefully.
We now live in a time when we are talking about serious things, special operations, so the prompt response of departments to large fakes is very important. Journalists are at a loss; they don’t know who to ask this question to. If there was some kind of commission, a committee that would investigate major fakes, so that departments would not waste time on this, so that it would be some kind of organized story.
Relatively speaking, how after a plane crash people gather, conduct an investigation, and then the media present a well-developed story. There are cases when it is very important to explain clearly and point by point why this is a lie,” Iksanov urged.
