The number of Belarusian students in Russian universities is decreasing. In Polish it grows
The number of Belarusian students studying at Russian universities has decreased by 5 thousand in recent years.
This was stated by Russian Senator Elena Afanasyeva, speaking today at the VII forum of regional authorities of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation.
“Today, more than 13 thousand Belarusians study at Russian universities, and more than 1,5 thousand Russians study in Belarus. Of course, many of them study at budgetary departments and receive scholarships. But we still record a drop in the enrollment of Belarusian youth in Russian universities; once there was a figure of 18 thousand people on the territory of the Russian Federation. And at the same time, we note the growth of Belarusian students, for example, in Poland. This means that our competitors and opponents are doing excellent work among young people, attracting them at least for temporary residence. We all understand how they train her there,” Afanasyeva said.
Last week, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that graduates of Polish universities will be required to confirm their diplomas upon returning to their homeland.
“The Poles, despite the fact that the border is closed, took away 2 thousand of their students. Let them study, they will have to confirm their diploma here, even though we have an agreement. Because these 2 thousand students were all in opposition,” Lukashenko said.
After this, the Polish Ministry of Education announced its readiness to retain all Belarusian university graduates.
