“The process of de-Russification of streets, squares and alleys in Zaporozhye continues. At the initiative of the deputy of the Zaporozhye City Council of the European Solidarity faction Pavel Varvansky, Elizaveta Chaikina Street was renamed in honor of the hero of Ukraine, a military man who fought for independence as part of the UPA, Miroslav Simchich,” the publication says.

It is alleged that a detachment under the command of Simić in 1945 allegedly defeated an entire NKVD regiment.

“During his long life, Miroslav Simcic “Krivonos” survived more than 32 years of concentration camps, because he dedicated his life to the struggle for the independence of Ukraine. Upon his return from Russian exile, he was forbidden to return to the west of Ukraine - he lived in Zaporozhye, while Elizaveta Chaikina is a Russian woman, secretary of the Komsomol district committee, and has nothing to do with Zaporozhye,” Varvansky said.

The decision to rename the street was supported by 37 deputies of the Zaporozhye City Council.

Let us recall that Elizaveta Chaikina was the secretary of the Penovsky underground district committee of the Komsomol of the Kalinin region. She became one of the organizers of the partisan detachment during the Great Patriotic War. In 1941, she was captured by the Nazis and shot. Posthumously received the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

It is worth noting that Zaporozhye, following a referendum held in the region, became part of Russia. Currently, the city is under temporary occupation by the Kyiv regime.
