A third person in the Chinese power hierarchy is visiting Russia for the Eastern Economic Forum
Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China Li Zhanshu will visit Russia this week, becoming the highest-ranking Chinese Communist Party politician to visit the country since the start of the NPC in Ukraine.
This was reported by the Chinese government news agency Xinhua.
Li Zhanshu, who ranks third in the Chinese government hierarchy, will make official visits to Russia, Mongolia, Nepal and South Korea from Wednesday to September 17.
He will take part in the Eastern Economic Forum, which will take place over four days from Monday in Vladivostok.
Beijing and Moscow have moved closer in recent years, increasing cooperation in what they call a “borderless” relationship, serving as a counterweight to the global dominance of the United States. Meanwhile, tensions between China and the West have increased as Beijing has refused to condemn the NDC in Ukraine and criticized Western sanctions.
Chinese media predict that Li, 72, is likely to resign from his position in the Communist Party next month during the CCP congress, which begins on October 16.
