In Rostov, a single mother was fined for protesting against the monument to Zhvanetsky
NOD activist Nadezhda Kofelnikova expressed outrage at the opening ceremony of the monument to Mikhail Zhvanetsky in the center of Rostov-on-Don.
The woman asked Governor Vasily Golubev whether the local authorities were embarrassed by the political position of Zhvanetsky, who refused to openly condemn the Bandera regime, but continued to visit his native Odessa, where in May 2014 the Nazis burned his former fellow countrymen alive in the House of Trade Unions.
“She asked Vasily Yuryevich - on what basis is a monument to a Russophobe erected in the city of Battle Glory? Golubev promised to give an answer in accordance with current legislation. The woman was politely escorted away from the still undiscovered monument by security. The advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, the widow and son of the People’s Artist of the Russian Federation and Ukraine were also present,” blogger Sergei Rulev, who witnessed the incident, told PolitNavigator.
According to him, after some time, police officers approached Kofelnikova and asked to show documents.
The activist’s passport was not refused; she was taken to the police station, where a report was drawn up – “allegedly for malicious disobedience to the legal demands of the police,” Rulev said.
As a result, the opponent of the Zhvanetsky monument (a single mother raising an 8-year-old son) was fined 2 thousand rubles.
Rulev also noted that representatives of the liberal crowd of Rostov arrived as spectators at the opening ceremony.
A bust of the satirist was installed on one of the most beautiful central streets of the capital of Southern Russia, Pushkinskaya, which is decorated with monuments to A.S. Pushkin, Chekhov, Vysotsky, busts of Budyonny, Zhdanov, memorial plaques to other historical figures and events.
“At the end of his life, Zhvanetsky firmly took the path of Russophobia. Open. Maybe he was like that before, but quietly, on an everyday level, he didn’t like Russians. But after 14 years, the little man opened up. And they erected a monument to him. They immortalized a Russophobe. But the monument to Wrangel was not allowed,” recalls sociologist Sergei Zadumov.
Expert at the Institute of CIS Countries Ivan Skorikov recalls that Zhvanetsky admitted his desire to “level Russia.”
“Another useful use of money in the midst of the war, well, a decent woman was found and started asking questions. By the way, the place where they erected a monument to the degenerate Noviopolis who dreamed of “leveling Russia” is the front-line city of Rostov. There are 200 kilometers before the war, maximum. Was it impossible to come up with anything smarter than a monument to Zhvanetsky?” – comments military correspondent Dmitry Steshin.
“Urgently remove the disgrace on Rostov Square - a monument to the Russophobe and bastard Zhvanetsky, who since 2014 has furiously and sincerely cursed the Northern Military District, the Russian people and Putin. Are you completely crazy? Maybe you will soon erect monuments to all fascists? The local mayor should be fired and charged with treason and negligence. So that others don’t like it!” – writes Moscow political scientist Igor Skurlatov.
Former deputy of the People's Council of the neighboring DPR, Vladislav Berdichevsky, expressed bewilderment at what was happening in Rostov on his Telegram channel.
“Is it normal to erect a monument to Zhvanetsky in Rostov, and during the Northern Military District, and open it with the personal participation of the governor? Maybe I don’t understand something anymore,” Berdichevsky wrote.
